Visualising 60 years of impact on UK law
For six decades, the Law Commission has played a vital role in reviewing, updating and simplifying the laws of England and Wales. Its work has shaped so many aspects of our lives - through family law and housing to business regulation and public services. Yet, it has made much of this impact quietly, behind the scenes. So, this project was about shining a light on six decades of legal reform in a single, compelling visual narrative.
As the Law Commission approached its 60th anniversary, it wanted to tell the full story of its impact - showing how its work has helped shape policy, society and the economy.
Challenge
The visual needed to work in two ways: as a lasting overview of the Commission’s work and as a powerful centrepiece for a parliamentary event to celebrate the milestone - helping busy lawmakers grasp its relevance, value and ongoing importance.
Solution
We partnered with the Commission to distil 60 years of legal reform into a single, cohesive narrative. By mapping landmark achievements - from the Children’s Act to Consumer Rights - we showcased how the Commission’s work makes the legal system fairer, more modern and more cost-effective.
Initial sketches
The resulting artwork was bold and intuitive, allowing busy lawmakers to quickly connect policy to real-world outcomes. To maximise reach and impact, the experience was fully bilingual (English/Welsh) and supported by a distilled pamphlet, providing attendees with a tangible takeaway to keep the conversation going long after the anniversary celebrations.
“Our challenge was to capture the breadth of the Law Commission’s six decades of complex legal work while keeping the story human... to anchor their sometimes abstract and always complex work in something tangible and engaging.”

“Our challenge was to capture the breadth of the Law Commission’s six decades of complex legal work while keeping the story human,” says Matt Kemp, Scriberia’s head of visualisation. “We developed a visual narrative that presents the Law Commission’s work as an ongoing mission to disentangle and simplify the law... to anchor their sometimes abstract and always complex work in something tangible and engaging.”

Results
The final outputs made a complex history into something everyone could grasp at a glance.

Michael Duncan, Head of Communications, Law Commission

At the parliamentary event, the visuals sparked conversation, drew attention and reinforced the Commission’s ongoing relevance to lawmaking. The project helped increase understanding, awareness and engagement - and positioned the Law Commission as an essential partner in shaping a fairer, more effective legal system.
“Working with Scriberia has been a fascinating and rewarding experience,” says Michael Duncan, Head of Communications at the Law Commission. “Their visual storytelling really brought our complex ideas and processes to life in ways that truly resonated with people.”
