Real research impact for OU Infographics

Founded in the late 60s, the Open University's partnership with the BBC made it a pioneer in research communication. They’ve worked with Scriberia several times over the years, most recently on a series of infographics to support their broadcast content and give their students an opportunity to explore some fascinating questions in greater depth.

Can you be addicted to love? How can boxing benefit your body and your mind? And what's the difference between reading on-screen and reading on paper? These are a few of the questions posed by OU academics to support and inspire their audience's learning, and allow the research impact to spread more easily across their social channels.

"Collaborating with the university's academics, we needed a way to bring a diverse range of, often complex, ideas to life in a compelling and accessible way."

"Collaborating with The Open University’s academics, we needed a way to bring a diverse range of, often complex, ideas to life, in a compelling and accessible way," explains Chris Belson, Broadcast Platforms & Public Engagement Manager at The Open University.

“It’s sometimes challenging to know how to communicate something like the science behind dopamine’s effect on our behaviour, for example. But Scriberia managed to bring the area to life, as they always do."

Our studio team developed a template for infographics that could be used across a variety of subjects, containing different content in answer to different questions.

"It’s still early days, but we have already seen a rise in the average time on page and a clear indication that our audiences are interacting with the pieces.

The Open University has already seen an increase average time its audience spends on the page. This is a clear indication that people are engaging with the infographics. Plus, they report that they’ve had a fantastic response from the academics as well.

Chris says: “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with Scriberia. Everyone was very enthusiastic and just seemed to get what we were looking to achieve and connected with the work."
