Challenge
Effectively implementing a cultural shift within a large, well-established organisation is no simple task. For Dr. Luke Roberts of Resolve Consultants, this was the challenge he faced working with his client, St John Ambulance - the volunteer-powered, charitable organisation dedicated to the teaching of first aid.
St John had engaged long-standing Scriberia clients, Resolve, to help transform their approach to conflict management and cultivate a model for cultural change. Recognising the importance of visual communication, Resolve Consultants felt it could be the key to driving this change.
Dr. Roberts says, “When you have around 26,000 volunteers, conflict is going to be a natural part of that organisation. But getting things moving within such a large organisation, with such a history and such complexities, is often the hardest challenge."
Solution
He engaged Scriberia to support this challenge and, over the course of two years, to construct a visual narrative to convey the ideas of conflict resolution to the charity.
In that time, 70 practitioners took part in the training - designed to equip them with the mindset and techniques to generate this change. At the - and at the end of each year, these were brought together for a “town hall event” to review their journey so far. Trained in different cohorts, it was the first time they had all been together and Scriberia’s artists were there to create a visual record of the event.

“By documenting it in this way, you’re creating both curiosity and, importantly, reassurance that things have happened and how the story is changing.”
Following the events, Dr. Roberts worked with our artists to iterate and digitise the artwork, creating a “system artefact” for use across the organisation.
Results
Dr. Roberts says, “The artwork is a really strong internal comms piece - something that reinforces the experience of those who were there but also a visual record for those who couldn’t make it, which is far more engaging than a list of minutes. It keeps that sense of community going, which is really important.
“It’s been shared with mid-level management to offer insights into the project as well as senior leadership - to provide them with an easy way of seeing what’s going on across the St John community,” he adds.
“Scriberia are incredibly adaptable and I always trust them to deliver exactly what’s required, even when presented with unique requests - such as a particular metaphor I’d like including! They’ll always come up with an innovative solution.”
