The balance of style and substance for Ferring

Ferring is a research-driven pharmaceutical company committed to helping people build healthy families and live better lives. When the group introduced its new Research and Development (R&D) operating model, we created a mid-century inspired infographic to help them signpost and implement this significant new direction. Challenge: For global pharmaceutical group Ferring, research has been at the core of its operations for more than 70 years, discovering and developing life-changing medicines and treatments. When the company created a new R&D operating model, it sought a way of documenting and bringing the strategy to life - to align staff, support change management and, ultimately, ensure its successful execution. Solution: “We wanted an easy way of illustrating our new R&D operating model and chose to work with Scriberia having worked with them on other projects in the past,” said Björn Lindström, Director of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs. Scriberia’s visualisers worked closely with Björn’s team to depict how best-in-class R&D works at Ferring, focusing on its main therapeutic areas: reproductive medicine and maternal health, uro-oncology/urology, and gastroenterology. Through a combination of illustrations and text, we created a brand-aligned, bespoke infographic to provide an engaging and easy-to-understand overview of the function. Input was gathered from multiple stakeholders across Ferring to help create and shape the design. In the final stages, the Ferring team suggested the use of a circle to capture a sense of continual innovation - a powerful example of creative collaboration between Scriberia and Ferring. I love that Ferring are the proud owners of a really exceptional piece of artwork, as well as something that does the important job they needed it to do.” Chris Wilson, Scriberia Results: The finished work is a particularly stylish piece of visual communication. Scriberia co-founder, Chris Wilson says: "We often downplay the quality of the illustration that happens in the Scriberia studio in order to emphasise its effectiveness or its value to our clients. We don't want to go on about how beautiful it is, because we want people to understand that our pictures have real purpose. "But projects like this are proof that our team really are the best at what they do, precisely because they are able to convey the substance while really pushing the style. I love that Ferring are the proud owners of a really exceptional piece of artwork, as well as something that does the important job they needed it to do. It's got a strong mid-century feel to it - which was a golden era for bold and simple design - but it also feels very contemporary." The infographic, originally used within the R&D function for internal presentations, town hall meetings, and employee inductions, has been so well received for its clear and accessible representation of the new operating model, that it has now been shared across the broader organisation. Externally, the artwork has been printed on pop-up banners and showcased at events, effectively conveying complex concepts with simplicity. We were impressed with how quickly Scriberia understood our needs and the business logic we wanted to convey. Björn Lindström, Director of Corporate Communications & Public Affairs, Ferring “We were impressed with how quickly Scriberia understood our needs and the business logic we wanted to convey," says Björn. "This infographic ensures a consistent narrative and equips everyone with the same tools to articulate the story uniformly. We are very happy with the result and look forward to working with Scriberia again soon.” Do you have an important story to tell? Let our award-winning team help you bring it to life.
