Upfront and Centre: scribing women's voices
UPFRONT and Centre is an annual conference that empowers women's voices and helps cultivate a vibrant community of strength and connection. Our scribe attended live, capturing expert insights and contributing to the momentum of positive change.
Expert speakers, compelling speeches and a gathering of great minds - all the right ingredients for an impactful event. But how can you effectively capture and ensure the legacy of the event long after it concludes?
This was the challenge for the organisers of UPFRONT and Centre, an experiential conference for women and non-binary people to gather to communicate their challenges, hold each other accountable, and hear from inspiring speakers.
The event is the brainchild of Lauren Currie, acclaimed keynote speaker and former chairperson of the organisation Pregnant Then Screwed. Lauren founded Upfront, which runs courses - called Bonds - to help women and businesses across the globe to transform their confidence and drive positive change.
Our scribe Lauren was invited to attend the all-day event, held in Glasgow’s Barras Art and Design hub.
Under the main theme of ‘Activating grace in a world on FIRE’, the 300-plus guests engaged in a mix of talks and panel discussions from psychologists, writers, university chancellors and the Leader of the UK's Women's Equality Party. And Lauren was on hand to creatively capture it all.
Through documenting the key points, and weaving in Upfront’s core messages, Lauren created a beautifully hand-drawn snapshot of the conference that promoted connection and community.
The resulting artwork was shared post-event with all attendees to serve as a reminder of the day and its key messages and used to promote the next Bond.
“Lauren is incredibly talented and her sketches added something really special to our day. It's given us content that feels really authentic and represents UPFRONT And Centre so well.”
