The Westminster Foundation for Democracy (WFD) is working to strengthen democracy across the world, including widening women’s routes and representation in politics.

WFD wanted to mark International Women’s Day by exploring women’s leadership stories. For this, they wanted to illustrate what a political leadership journey might be like for a woman; taking the reader through the obstacles and challenges women may face en route to a role in political leadership.
We designed six single-concept illustrations to highlight the ways in which women all over the world could be helped on their leadership journeys, all based on WFDs key research findings.
These illustrations are used across the campaign page on the WFD website. The illustrations help explain both the story of women and what WFD are doing to challenge and change the status quo. As part of their International Women’s Day campaign, these illustrations are representative of women across the world.
