When Penguin Books marked their 90th anniversary with a landmark celebration at London’s Design Museum, they wanted a creative way to honour their rich history - and involve every one of the 800 guests in the moment.
Taking inspiration from a guest book created for Penguin’s 25th anniversary, we designed an immersive, participatory 'guest book' wall that paid tribute to the brand’s legacy while capturing the spirit of the occasion.
The publishing house's distinct colour palette ran throughout, ensuring the artwork felt unmistakably Penguin from start to finish.
The scribing wall quickly became the focal point of the evening, drawing celebrities including, Gyles Brandreth and Stephen Fry, to make their mark. It created a memorable, interactive experience and a one-of-a-kind visual memento of the night.
“That's where the brilliant Scriberia came in with their creative solution to make our guest book wall a real focal point of the event. Scriberia met the brief and then went beyond to make this such a success and a piece of history for our archives.”
Anna Chesters, Penguin Random House
As Anna Chesters from Penguin Random House put it: “Having seen a guest book from Penguin's 25th anniversary celebrations, we knew we wanted to have something similar for our 90th birthday party at the Design Museum. But how do you accommodate that with around 800 guests?
“That's where the brilliant Scriberia came in with their creative solution to make our guest book wall a real focal point of the event. Guests flocked to it and by the end of the night we had signatures, well wishes and illustrations from hundreds of guests. Scriberia met the brief and then went beyond to make this such a success and a piece of history for our archives.”
Following the event, we digitised the final artwork, providing Penguin with a lasting and shareable archive of their anniversary - celebrating not just the past 90 years, but the creativity, connection and community that continues to define their story.
