A century of maternity protection

100 years ago the International Labour Organisation adopted the first ever convention on maternity protection. It recognised that a working mother should have a right to financial support and a guarantee that her job is safe while she takes the time she and her new baby need. But there is still much to do.

The International Labour Organisation is a long-standing client of Scriberia’s and we always relish the challenges they bring us. We know from experience that, when it comes to communicating important messages to an international audience, animation is an especially effective way to do it.

It was great to see the ILO's international following responding so positively to the animation across social media after its debut.

In the centennial year of the ILO’s groundbreaking convention on maternity protection, our brief was to visualise the importance of maternity protection for people all over the world; those who enjoy the protections the ILO have campaigned for, and those who are still waiting for them. Not just mothers or babies, but families, communities, and societies.
